Stars take down the Avalanche

The Dallas Stars headed to the mile high city to take on the Colorado Avalanche at the Pepsi Centre last night.

Both lineups had top forward and defensive players resting, Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin, Jason Spezza, Alexander Radulov & Mattias Janmark all sat this one out for the Stars forwards, Tyson Barrie & MacKinnon were among the Colorado top lines who were also resting.

The no.1 goalies however had their chance to shine in a full game, Ben Bishop stopped all shots he faced 5-on-5, and just let one shot past him on an Avs power play. Varlamov for the Avalanche also let one shot past him on a Stars power play along with two more to push the Stars to a 3 – 1 victory.

The Avs opened the scoring in the first on the power play when Ty Lewis picked up his first goal of the preseason, the Stars found the equalizer within a minute of the 2nd period when Roope Hintz got his 3rd goal of the preseason and awarding the Stars a power play goal.

Tyler Pitlick and Julius Honka added 2 goals for the Stars in the 3rd period to give the Stars the win.

Coach Montgomery was once again happy with the performance, after the game he said the Stars didn’t find their legs in the first, but in the second and third periods they were fast and played well. Monte is especially happy with all the potential 4th or even 3rd liners, he has a lot of players who are playing really well, he mentions Ritchie, Hintz, Dickinson, Smith among a few that are impressing him every night and loves that the Stars have depth, he knows if injury strikes the Stars have cover that can step up.

The head coach also commented on how excellent Ben Bishop played, and was impressed at how he stepped right in and looked unstoppable.

The Stars also managed to walk away from the game with ZERO giveaways, that is something I would really like to see every night! Some of the most painful games in the past have been on a silly turnover that has cost us the game, if Monte’s system has us playing fast and in control of the puck I am really excited to see just how far this team will go.

But once again, it may only be preseason, but its another win for the Stars who go 4-0-1 for the Preseason, the Stars have their 2nd game against the Blues on Friday before rounding up the Preseason at home to the Avs on Sunday (the game against the Avs will be streamed live on dallasstars.com – FINALLY).
