The Colorado Avalanche came out swinging after the Stars took a 3-1 series lead last time out.
Dallas had a last minute opportunity to start Ben Bishop who had missed the last 8 post season starts and what the Stars had hoped would be a huge addition to the lineup turned out to be a painful 5-0 first period.
It is easy to point the finger at Bishop, a rusty goaltender who has some form of an injury and has not played in a while, and his last regular season games and playoff games, he has not been the top goaltender the Stars have been used to seeing. But he faced I think 18 shots in quick succession, simply the Stars just did not come out to play and it is against a hungry team who are facing elimination.
Credit to Colorado, they took advantage of the Stars slow start and maybe not ready Ben Bishop and destroyed the Stars in the first period. Dobby came in at 4-0, allowed the first shot to make it 5-0 but then was fantastic throughout the rest of the game and kept the Stars in the game.
It was chippy, nasty and lots of penalties, but it was a good way for the Stars to change the game around and they almost worked there way back, but it was a too larger hill to climb and the final score ended up 6-3. Stars still lead the series, now 3 games to 2 and have another chance to eliminate the Avalanche in game 6, Dallas will also be the ‘home’ team for game 6.
