Spezza remains a Star

Jason Spezza had a large performance drop last year for the Stars, he dropped 24 points last season compared to the previous year and many believed the Stars would buy him out.

However, Nill has confirmed he is not interested in buying out Jason Spezza’s contract, and I am pleased to hear this. I like Spezza I believe last year was an exception, he had a different role for the Stars and his experience played a bigger role than his offensive production. In the previous few years he saw top line ice time with Benn & Seguin, and that trio were unstoppable a few seasons ago, naturally dropping Spezza down to the 2nd/3rd line will have a knock on effect to his points.

Next year we all know will be interesting, new coaches, new system new energy and determination on everyone part to get back into the playoffs. Spezza will hopefully be set free once again to score and set people up, his silky smooth hands and ability to control the puck and find space is always exciting to watch, and I wouldn’t want to see him in anything but a Stars uniform next year.

A final point on Spezza is I love the PP unit of Benn, Seguin, Radulov, Spezza & Klingburg – get that working and the Stars will be top 5 on the PP.
